Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!

It is my honor and pleasure to meet you as freshmen and fresh friends, and to share what we have for the future here, though briefly.

In the first place, I would like to say thanks to your parents, for all the efforts they have made and for hardship they have been through, in helping bring the wonderful make of you today. And then I have to say we are grateful to you here, for your choice of our school of foreign languages as a place to stay for tertiary education, so that we could continue to grow and prosper as independent entity of higher learning. In addition, we are very much pleased to congratulate on your success of getting here, for we are now seeing a significant promotion, both academically and managerially. You made a good choice. We shall spare no efforts to satisfy your needs, curricular, extracurricular or other activities.

Next, I would like to talk very briefly about your major matter.

Attitudes determine all. English is regarded by those majoring in natural or social sciences as a tool useful but not necessary, or rather beverage than water, because they do not rely on English for survival. English is luxury for them. In contrast, For those learning English as major, English should be taken as water, which is indispensable to their existence in society. They make a living by doing things in English! Therefore,English is actually their second mother tongue or surviving language! It would be totally wrong if they think English is foreign language for them!

Effects will result with testability.  With those attitudes in mind, you will find yourself well motivated and your learning domain will be totally different. Of course the learning achievements are different, too. So far as I understand, the ultimate judgment of good command of English is that it has become part of your blood, circulating with your thoughts during the day and your dreams during the nights! Whatever you do, English will be present. English is internalized in your behavior and thinking. As a result, the so-called four skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing altogether, will be developed as a matter of sub-consciousness and habits.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe I have said what I want to say on this occasion and we shall share much more in days and weeks and years to come. I heartedly expect to see more of you, to talk more often with you, so as to share your moments of sorrow, joy and love.

                  Thank you!
